Full Description:
The Filicide Education and Prevention Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity formed to educate the public about filicide and provide prevention and support programs to families. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a parent is the perpetrator in most homicides of children under the age of five. Parent-child murder has been treated as an anomaly; in reality, approximately five children die each day as a result of abuse and neglect. There are several other types of filicide which raise this number even higher. Research has shown that most men and women who commit filicide have a history of childhood abuse, are isolated and lack social support. Parents who struggle must be taken seriously, destigmatized and provided with help before their coping skills are completely exhausted. We offer community education, parent skills education, psychoeducation for mothers, anger management and filicide-suicide training. Support groups are also provided for mothers, fathers and survivors of filicide.
